Why is VoIP not more popular? There are one or two minor issues that have been ironed out in terms in integrating VoIP architectures with the Internet. As you can imagine it is critical that the voice data communication streams between the two or more connected parties needs to be in real time – or else there would be a lag or delay time when talking. This is conflict with the heterogeneous architecture of the Internet that is comprised of many routers (machines that route packets), and hence data packers transmitted across the Internet can have a high Round Trip Time (RTT) before successfully reaching its end destination. This is clearly a limiting factor for successful VoIP and the biggest hurdle the technology has had to overcome. This is quite often the cause of problems with free to use applications such as Skype where there is congestion on the Internet – where the VoIP data streams experience delays resulting in poor or delayed voice communication quality. VoIP technology is not new. Perfecting it is relatively tricky and only with the recent advent of broadband availability in South Africa has VoIP become viable. MyCostSavingCall is a paid for service that offers much cheaper
rates but offering a quality connection and crystal clear voice. |
